How was Sandwich for All formed? In February 2021, after reading a series of Facebook posts in which residents and former residents shared painful experiences about racial, religious, and other forms of discrimination in Sandwich, a group met on Zoom to talk about what we could do. Many of us did not know each other, but we all loved Sandwich, and were seriously alarmed by these reports of hate language and other hurtful incidents. We began meeting every two weeks and quickly agreed on the name “Sandwich for All” because it so aptly reflects the positivity and inclusiveness for which we strive. |
Why do we need Sandwich for All? We believe there are at least two reasons Sandwich for All is needed: First and foremost, we don’t want any residents of, or visitors to, Sandwich to ever feel unsafe or unwelcome, or to be hurt by unkind words or behavior, whether intentional or not. We’ve heard too many accounts of painful personal experiences in our community from disabled, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and non-Christian residents and visitors. Often, though not always, this may be due to the offender’s lack of awareness. Other times, the problem is systemic, i.e. built into the institutional or corporate structure. Secondly, we firmly believe that our children, cultural life, and economic future will benefit enormously from the richest possible diversity of people and perspectives we can attain. |
Is Sandwich for All a political group? Sandwich for All is non-partisan. We believe that working to understand, respect, and appreciate each other’s differences is an outward expression of an inner value that transcends politics and unites people regardless of political party. How is Sandwich for All funded? Sandwich for All is funded by individual contributions, civic groups, and foundations. The Cape Cod Foundation serves as our fiscal sponsor, providing us non-profit status. Initial funding came from a generous grant of $2,000 from The Fund for Sandwich.
