May 16, 2023: Open Books, Open Minds book group meets to discuss "The Mashpee Nine: A Story of Cultural Justice" by Paula Peters, local author, journalist, and activist Paula Peters, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. The book recounts details of a police raid, arrest and court trial of nine Wampanoag tribal members who were drumming on the Mashpee Pond campsite in July 1976. Sandwich Public Library, 6:30-8:00pm.

The film addresses the apprehension and confusion many feel when talking about race and racism, and its impact on mental health-- all through the eyes of students, teachers, and experts. Draper's NY Times best-selling story tells the compelling story of Melody, an 11-year old girl with cerebral palsy. Kirkus Reviews called it "gutsy and unflinching." March 9, 2023: LQBTQIA+ Allyship, Our Youth, and Our Town. A presentation and workshop with Tracy Morin, covering concepts of gender and sexuality and how they evolve over time; troubling trends in the mental health of youth who identify as LGBTQIA+; and a look at Sandwich, including brainstorming ways to make our town a safer, more inclusive place for our LGBTQIA+ youth, neighbors, and visitors.
